We had dinner at a friend's and he made mouth watering Vetkoek... Fat Cakes... OK OK it doesn't translate well...

    Vetkoek and curry mince...

basically a bread dough of which palm sized pieces are deep fried in oil... fried till golden on one side and then on the other...

golden and crisp outside and cooked inside...

    So off I went tonight...

and I have no idea if it'll be a success or not because i made it up as I went I copied a Vetkoek recipe... resized it... it was huge...

and added some goodies to it...

I grew up with this and this is what I teethed on as a baby... hehe! and my G I miss it soooo much...! Another South African speciality...

This is a basic Biltong recipe, which lends itself to any number of variations for those who want to experiment until they have created their “Perfect Biltong”.

    * 2 kg beef or venison (silverside, topside or such)(London Broil)
    * 3 cups coarse salt (not table salt or sea salt but the big lumpy salt)
    * 2 cups soft brown sugar

Sorry for doing this to you all...

another South African Recipe... I found on the internet because I can't call my mom now for her recipe or she'd kill me... international time difference... Try it... adjust it to taste this is food for the gods...!! well if the gods were South African at least... Wink

Instead of meatloaf why not try this one day?

No self respecting South African housewife does not own (and treasure!) a favourite bobotie recipe.
