Fruit juice in soap? Empty Fruit juice in soap?

Post by Saltysteele Mon Jul 12, 2010 6:20 pm

I know I've heard this before.

I have another blueberry store nearby interested in some blueberry soap. has anyone here made soap with fruit juices, instead of water (or in addition to water?) seems blueberry juice is pretty dark blue (haven't seen it that often, so not exactly sure; it's been a while). would probably cure gray, though.

how much blueberry seed do you guys (anyone that has used it) use per pound of soap? Seems like it was a small amount. also seems like I remember it being pretty costly.

okay, just read a review on WSP that the reviewer used 1/2 tsp per pound of oil. also said it was a "pretty mean" exfolliator, as in it may be a little too rough for sensitive-skin users (her sister).

15 bucks (USD) for 1/2 pound.

Hey, I have not used fruit juices. Only veg. juice.....as for the blueberry seeds, I do use them, but in major moderation! They do hurt like the dickens if you use too much. I use a finger pinch for 48 oz. of oils. HTH!

Thanks, Billie Smile Yes, that does help, as far as how much to put in.

However, the question still remains of how fruit juice reacts in soap, and how it lasts.... hmmmmm Fruit juice in soap? Icon_question

Would it have to be blueberry seeds, maybe use poppy seeds instead. Sorry, don't know about the juice but everyone uses vegies all the time but not at full water amount. Not very helpful, maybe someone will come along who knows.

Bret, i think TC has used fruit juice in soap before... if any of the acid in the juice neutralizes some of the lye I don't think it does so a lot... I think she said her soap comes out fine when using fruit juices... I hope TC can maybe give more perspective...

I have used fruit juices and have to say they don't do much for the soap , most will morph to a brown color.
Blueberry seeds in moderation are nice in soap.
On the other hand vegetable juices and purees do very well in soap ime.

I have used lime juice and I use pureed fresh fruit a lot too. I have no idea if the lime juice does much for the soap although it doesn't turn the soap I make with it really brown. I also grate the zest and use that too as well as lime eo. The soap is beigey brown and has a green tinge (probably from the avocado oil in it?).

Pureed fruit seems to come through the saponification process to some degree and makes a good facial soap. I use pureed mango and strawberries for oily teen skin and pureed avocado and banana for dry skin.

I haven't make a soap with fruit juice or puree as the full water amount. The lime soap has 1/4 liquid as lime juice, added at trace. The fruit purees I use at 1T ppo. HTH!

you guys are the best... between kellie and TC i think we have it covered... come to think of it... the soap my student wanted to munch on had lemon zest in it but not the juice... Wink I used papaya in soap before and after initial worries and ricing and a change to HP it came out well...
